About the Course


This course will train delegates of the role, responsibilities and duties of the fire warden, the classification of fire and the selection of the correct extinguishing media for a range of fires. Delegates will also be made aware of the range of systems of work and equipment that can be used to mitigate and control fires within the workplace, whilst gaining the skills and

knowledge to take the appropriate action in the event of a fire incident. hot work permits, permit to work systems and air quality testing during hot work are also covered in this course

The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme.


Course contain theory and practice ​ Target group:

This qualification will enable participant to become more aware of fire safety at the place of work, prevention and mitigation,. It is a must for those who are part of a safety team in a company, or personnel who area assigned fire watcher duties during hotworks.

Overall course objectives:

  • Be knowledgeable of the chemistry of fire

  • Understand the nature of fire on how it transfer and the different sources of heat

  • Have knowledge on fire prevention and understand existing company fire safety program

  • Use fire extinguisher effectively by choosing the appropriate unit for a specific type of fire

  • Understand emergency procedure and can assume as fire evacuation assistant in an event of emergency

  • Gain understanding of the Hot Work Permit procedure

  • Gain knowledge on handling compressed gas cylinder

  • Understand basic fire safety and what to do In the event of an emergency

  • Understand the principles of fire risk control

  • Understand the basics of practical fire safety.

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of how fire spreads and the behaviour of humans in the event of fire

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the role of the fire marshal

  • To furthers ones knowledge on various fire emergencies

  • Be able to manage fire incidents at the workplace

  • Know how to use a fire extinguisher, hydrant, fire blanket and fire

  • hose

  • To develop the use of relevant information and further knowledge in practical skills when dealing with various types of fire

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely Skills:

  • Demonstrate how to operate a fire blanket

  • Demonstrate how to operate a fire extinguisher

  • Demonstrate how to use a fire hose reel

  • Demonstrate how to raise the alarm

  • Demonstrate the interpretation of a fire plan

  • State actions necessary in the event of an accident

  • State the facility`s fire prevention plan

  • Deal with different emergency situations

  • Describe the type of approach needed to handle fires

  • Demonstrate skills needed to choose and operate the correct type of portable fire extinguisher needed for the type of fire M.S.T.S. is licensed by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority License no : 2019-007 as a Higher Education Institution
